CognacEnthusiastic and passionate debates, privileged time with authors from all over Europe, encounters for all ages, warmth and conviviality: all these expressions sum up the Cognac Festival of European Literature.
Created in 1988, the LEC Festival has celebrated thirty years of existence. The LEC association’s mission is to encourage people to discover and appreciate all European literature. The festival takes place every year from Thursday to Sunday during the third weekend of November in Cognac.
Writers, illustrators, translators, journalists and artists from all European countries meet up to make Cognac a capital of literary Europe.
The festival has become a privileged event that encourages encounters and exchanges between the public and authors from different countries. Debates, meetings, exhibitions, readings, prize-giving, film projections, a bookshop area and areas for young people and families, games and workshops are ways in which the wealth of our European heritage can be expressed.

A highlight of November, European Literature is:
- An invitation to discover contemporary European literature,
- Exchanges with authors and illustrators from all over Europe,
- Taking part in debates, discussions, graphic cafés, prize-giving and performances,
- Seeing exhibitions and a cinema programme,
- Discovering, imagining and having fun as a family,
- Participating in workshops,
- Exploring our new section: young adults and Euromanga,
- Strolling through the bookshops …
