Specificities of the Grande and Petite Champagne crus

The terroir of cognac is unique, and the secret of its most aromatic eaux-de-vie lies in the limestone soils where the vines grow. Since 1948, Rémy Martin has been making its cognacs with eaux-de-vie from Grande and Petite Champagne only.

The Cognac Fine Champagne appellation

These crus are renowned for their terroir, which produces particularly round, fine eaux-de-vie with great ageing potential. Rémy Martin cognacs bear the Cognac Fine Champagne appellation and LOUIS XIII the Cognac Grande Champagne appellation.

Your questions about Maison Rémy Martin

Paul-Émile Rémy Martin created LOUIS XIII in 1874. LOUIS XIII is a blend of eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne region. The design of the decanter is inspired by a 16th century flask found on the site of the Battle of Jarnac. Each crystal decanter is unique and numbered, and the neck is made of 21-carat gold.

The train tour is located on the ‘avenue de Gimeux’ cognac production site in Merpins, 4 kilometres from Cognac town centre. It takes 9 minutes by car and 16 minutes by bike to get there.
