Road-trip between river and vineyards
Châteauneuf-sur-Charente
Your road-trip between river and vineyards starts at the reception area at Le Bain des Dames in Châteauneuf-sur-Charente. While the sporty ones are trying out a canoe or archery or exploring Flow Vélo, the more siesta-minded can stretch out on the beach by the Charente before everyone meets up at the open-air café. The Tourism Office is open from mid-June to mid-September.
Don’t forget to do your shopping at the easily accessible town centre of Châteauneuf-sur-Charente where there are numerous shops and services.
Lignières-Ambleville
Don’t miss the astonishing Château de Bouteville on the road to Lignières-Ambleville. At the end of a fun-packed, exciting visit, the view from the terrace is remarkable! The Bouteville balm workshop, just below, is worth a visit.
Startlingly green in the spring, yellowy-orange in the autumn, the ocean of vines opens onto the delightful village of Lignières-Ambleville, a proud representative of our Villages of Stone and Vines. The park and the Charmille château are a majestic setting for the reception area !
Don’t forget to book a visit to the Petite Maison du Lin a few days in advance – it’s a great day out !
Bassac
Set yourselves up comfortably in the reception area, an ideal base camp for exploring this charming village, its bridges and arms of the Charente, its watermill and of course the Saint-Étienne de Bassac abbey, one of the most beautiful in the area. Just a stone’s throw and accessible by Flow Vélo, is the not-to-be-missed gabarier village of Saint-Simon, where you can go on boat rides, and its little museum. Both villages have restaurants.
Cognac
Following the river will take you to Jarnac. Discover the town and its numerous visits and activities : cognac houses, canoeing, birthplace of François Mitterrand etc. Info from the Tourism Office.
Farther on lies Bourg-Charente, another Village of Stone and Vines, a perfect spot for a break and the possibility of starred lunch close to the château Grand Marnier.
Soon after, you arrive at the Art & History town of Cognac, birthplace of François 1st and cradle of cognac production.
