Balade dégustation | Fleuve, gabarres et négoce : la rive gauche et son grand chai Tiffon
The Friday 30 May at 16 a.m30
Côté Courvoisier, signalétique Bateau Promenade, Place du Château 16200 Jarnac
A "panoramic" stroll along the river, with Erik (Maison Braastad) on hand to take you on a guided tour of this winery steeped in history… and the angels' share of it!
An emblematic building on the left bank of the river, the grand Tiffon winery, built at the end of the 19th century, is one of the major examples of monumental industrial architecture in the Cognac region. Unlike many other wineries, this vast building elegantly extends its 17 bays parallel to the Charente, seemingly defying its neighbors opposite (the former Bisquit & Dubouché wineries) with their "uncovered" gables, as well as the river's often catastrophic floods!
If the history of the city of Jarnac can be told on the right bank, from the squares to the alleyways, here, on the left bank, it reveals an equally fascinating chapter: the story of the rise of the cognac brandy trade from the 18th century onwards, of river navigation with barges and of the development of the quays along the Charente.
Tasting strictly reserved for adults.
