Balade contée nocturne | Lumières nocturnes sur le patrimoine juillacais
The Friday 27 June at 19 a.m00
Place de l'église 16130 Juillac-le-Coq
Organized by the Héritage culturel juillacais association, this unique event is part of the 14th Nuit des églises (Night of the Churches), whose theme for 2025 is "l'art fait renaître l'espérance" (art revives hope).
PROGRAMME: 7pm Start of the storytelling walk (4km). 9pm: Aperitif dinner and presentation of initiatives to promote Juillac's heritage. 9pm: Guided tour of St Martin's Church. Walk and tour guided by 2 guides, Sandrine RICHARD and David RICHARD (diocesan archivist).
This nocturnal event has been devised in two stages to make the most of the architectural and landscape setting of the charming village of Juillac-le-Coq, in the Segonzac region. At 7pm, join us for a 2-voice storytelling walk with stops along the way to discover the village’s heritage and the little stories that make the village and its church so special. This easy 4km walk will help you understand how Juillac-le-Coq came to be and why it was chosen as a crossroads. At the finish line, in the church square, walkers and other visitors can enjoy a convivial aperitif from 9pm onwards in the 2nd half of the evening.
At sunset, always magnificent on the heights of Juillac, the discovery of the church promises to be a unique experience with original lighting and musical interludes thanks to the kind participation of Raphaëlle THOMAS (mezzo-soprano & recorder). Overlooking the village surrounded by the Grande Champagne vineyards, the bell tower and choir of Saint-Martin church reveal the complementarity of Romanesque and Gothic art in the Cognac region. But it is the architecture of its nave that best tells the original story of the village, which was dependent on the cathedral chapter of Angoulême. This guided tour by David RICHARD will reveal the particularities, significance and simple yet atypical beauty of this building. Finally, in a nocturnal atmosphere, hoping for a beautiful moonlight, Sandrine RICHARD will evoke the old parish cemetery, formerly around the church, whose existence is recalled by the nearby hosannière cross.
